Hold the moon steady for easier viewing: /gamerule doDaylightCycle false Later set the heavens in motion again: /gamerule doDaylightCycle true

You cannot see the celestial view in the rain. So for moon viewing, make it clear for 900000 ticks: /weather clear 900000 or stop the weather cycle: /gamerule doWeatherCycle false
